3 sure-fire ways to boost website traffic without spending a dime

3 sure-fire ways to boost website traffic without spending a dime

With the average American spending a staggering 11 hours a day on digital media and 20 minutes per day on Facebook alone, the internet is a marketing channel you simply cannot ignore.

If you’ve just bought a business, are considering buying one or want to attract more custom on a shoestring budget, then read on. I’m going to cover three ways you can drive more visitors to your website without spending a dime.

#1 Promote Other Businesses & Websites

As the great Zig Ziglar said: “You can have everything in life you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want.” While the idea may seem a little naive, promoting other people’s websites or brand can indeed reap karmic dividends by creating fresh sources of traffic.

Let’s say you own a fitness clothing company and want greater exposure to gym goers. Simply feature on your website an article listing the top personal trainers in your local area, then let those personal trainers know how you’ve given them some free marketing.

Most of them will happily share that article with their audience via Twitter and other social platforms – and just like that, your company website is now in front of hundreds, or even thousands, of potential customers on social media.

Beyond the exposure to potential new custom, you’ve also just introduced your clothing brand to prominent personal trainers in your area. Recognising the mutually beneficial relationship many will readily promote your merchandise in return.

Here’s a real-life example of how these ‘top lists’ can look. They’re a very effective way to get your brand in front of a new audience and build relationships with other business owners within your niche. And it costs you nothing!

#2 Guest Posting

Another way to drive traffic to your website is by offering articles that showcase your knowledge and expertise to other websites. This is known as guest posting. You’re reading a guest post right now in fact!

Yielding search engine optimization benefits, guest posting can boost your Google ranking. But an arguably greater advantage still is getting your voice (and brand) heard by people from other online communities.

But why would a website accept an article from me, you might ask?

Guest posting is a very common, widely accepted way to get high quality articles at no cost. Think about it: most websites – particularly if they’re content-based – thrive and survive off of high-quality features that add value to readers.

No wonder that most website owners are only too happy to accept a free article – providing it’s of high quality and tailored to their audience – as a guest contribution.

From your perspective as the article provider, the main benefit is that you, your knowledge and your brand are exposed to a brand-new audience – at no cost to yourself.

#3 Try a New Platform

One of the greatest challenges in managing an online presence today is juggling the limited time and resources you have allocated to the many platforms available.

There’s your website for a start, then Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest and many more. Now Periscope has emerged as the latest ‘next big thing’ in online marketing.

If that’s not enough, there’s also YouTube. Launched in 2005 the still-dominant video-sharing platform remains grossly under-utilized by most businesses and represents a huge opportunity for free traffic and brand exposure.

YouTube is in fact the second largest search engine behind Google. It’s bigger than Bing, bigger than Yahoo.

And these remarkable statistics show how much audience engagement with video eclipses that of written content:

● 65% of viewers watch at least three-quarters of each video they view

● 50% of mobile traffic is now accounted for by video

● 55% of people watch online videos daily

So does your business have a YouTube presence? Or at the very least, do you have any videos within your content mix?

If the answer to either of those questions is no, then the good news is that it’s actually very simple to get started. Setting up a YouTube channel is quick and free and, if you’re on a tight budget, you can record decent-quality videos using your smartphone.

And if you want to up the ante on the quality, you can buy high-spec video cameras for as little as a couple hundred dollars.

Summing Up

The three tactics above are easy to execute, take very little time and, best of all, cost you nothing. If you like the idea of growing your business without spending a dime, then it’s surely time to take action!
